Question:
I was given a cookie jar that is stamped Red Wing Art on the bottom. The cookie jar is round with the word COOKIES written on a diagonal. There is also a "wheat" pattern all the way around the jar. The glaze is a dark rust near the top and near the bottom with a tan color toward the center. The lid has a small chip on the inside rim. The jar on the other hand is in excellent condition. TThe jar dates back to the 1930′s I believe. Could you please provide more information on this piece and the current value of this cookie jar. Thank you, Deb

Answer:
The "wheat" design on your cookie jar is actually cattails, and people usually refer to this piece as the cattail cookie jar. It belongs in the stoneware category, not dinnerware. This jar is fairly common but the cover is often missing or broken. Value for a brown cattails cookie jar and a cover with minor damage would be around $100-$150.
