Question:
I have a 6-gallon Red Wing butter churn that includes the lid and what I believe to be the original paddle given the wear pattern on it. The churn is marked with the blue number 6 along with the red wing below it and an oval stamp that reads Red Wing, Union Stoneware Co. Red Wing, Minn. This piece is in mint condition. I would very much appreciate any information you can provide around approximate date of production and estimated value. Apologies for not having a photo available. Thank you and best regards!
Answer: I am guessing that the size of wing on your 6 gallon Red Wing churn is around 4 1/2 inches long. If this is the case your churn was most likely manufactured between 1912 & 1917. Value in mint condition and complete with lid & dasher – $500 to $550. If it has a 6 inch wing ad and additional $50 and manufacture date between 1909 & 1912. Love those Red Wing churns. Al Kohlman
