Question:
Greetings Al, I would like a minute of your time and knowledge. I have come across this 6 GL S/G Churn and would like any and all info you could provide. The Cobalt is bright and bold which you can see in the pictures, has some condition issues around the bottom which appears something as eaten away the glaze. The handles don’t look like any S/G I have or am familiar with, they are really molded into the sides, kind of flat and rounded. Just doing my homework before we go any further. As always I thank you in advance for your time. -Paul

Answer: Paul, nice looking churn. I am quite sure your churn is not Red Wing. I want to say it is Ohio, but could be Western. Western salt glaze has had some issues with the salt glaze flaking, however, I have seen this on North Star pieces as well. The glaze with the brown spots wants to make me believe it is out of Ohio. I am afraid that is the best I can do for you. Sorry, Al Kohlman
