Question:
I recently purchased this item at an auction. It is a 10 gallon salt glazed crock. It has no cracks chips or defects except maybe the stain on the bottom. It has two rings around the top just above the 10. I believe the marking is a lazy 8 target is this right? I can’t pin point the value in the book I have. What is this piece worth and do the two grooves above the 10 mean anything.
Answer: Yes your crock is known as a Lazy 8 Target marked crock. The staining will affect the price as it takes away from the beauty of the crock. Also, the Lazy 8 Target crocks where produced in fairly large numbers by Red Wing and other stoneware companies. With the staining & common mark, I would place the value on your crock between $150 & $225. Al Kohlman
