Question:
Can you help me find who the maker of this crock is? If you look closely, and have an imagination, the letters could be sauerkraut. There are no other marks on this crock other than the blue colbalt. I also researched Clay Giants. The author believes the potter’s name was August Sandberg. The letters look more like S&K to me. Regardless, if this person did make the crock, is it possible there would be a picture of the person who made it in some type of documentation? Any info would be helpful Best regards, Kim
Answer: Kim, these crocks are known or called August Sandberg crocks. August Sandberg was a Minnesota Stoneware Company potter back in 1894. Now whether or not they really are an August Sandberg made crock is not known for sure that I am aware of. There have been a number of these SA crocks found in the Midwest. I wish I could give you a precise conclusion on your SA crock, but this is the best I can give you for now. Al Kohlman
