Question:
I’m wondering if you can help me identify and value 3 of my crocks that I am thinking of selling. I know the 8 is a red wing, but it has a nice size chip, so I don’t know what the value would be. Then there is the one that is either a 2 or a 3, is that a red wing too? that one has a crack that I have shown that does go all the way through to the inside. Finally there is the 6 that I have no idea what it is. the crack on that one does not go all the way through. I bought them all like this years ago at a garage sale and haven’t done anything with them. Is there some care I should take so the cracks don’t get worse if I decide to keep them? Thank you for your time. Loreen
Answer: Loreen, the only photo I received is your 8 gallon Red Wing crock. This crock with the large chip would have a value in the area of $50. The other two pieces you have with the cracks would have even a smaller value as collectors and cracks just to not get along. These pieces are usually sold at garage sales with fairly low prices attached to them. If you want to secure your cracks, I think liquid super glue in the cracks then place a tight tourniquet around the crock for 24 hours works best. Any super glue that runs on the crock can be chipped off with a razor blade after it dries. Al Kohlman
