Question:
My Mother had this (butter?) crock and I now possess it. Hopefully you will get the pictures. It is about 7 inches high and about 6 inches in diameter with a lid and wire carrying handle on top. It is in excellent shape and has the Red Wing logo on the bottom. There are designs on the lid and the upper part of the crock. Please let me know what you think. Thank you.
Answer: Your mother’s piece is a Red Wing Gray line (Sponge-band) butter pail. The Gray line pieces are down a little in value compared to where they use to be. I have seen these Gray Line butter pails sell for as high as $650 years back. However today, the price range would be between $400 & $500. Just hang on to this little gem and I am sure down the road the value will increase. Red Wing collectors love Gray Line. Al Kohlman
