Question:
I bought this salt glaze beehive jug at an auction. I can’t find any manufacturer mark. I am not sure of the pattern. It is in perfect condition, with no chips or cracks. It does have some turkey droppings or whatever you call those marks. The pattern is a bright cobalt blue color.Do you know what this pattern is?Is this a redwing? In your opinion what would the value of this piece be?It is a very nice looking piece with 5 rows of slightly raised lines that go around it. There are 2 swoop shaped lines on one side of the back and 1 on the other side of the back engraved into it also. They all appear to have been made in the original piece and not something that would have been added later. The bottom part of the handle has 2 small indents on it where it was applied.Thank you for any information you may be able to help me with.Hopefully my picture will go through to help you! Deb
Answer: Deb, your salt glaze beehive jug is not Red Wing. It is most likely an Ohio piece. The decoration on your piece has no name that I know of as it is a mixture of line crossings. However, it is still a nice looking beehive. I would place the value in the range of $400 to $500. Al Kohlman
