Question:
Interested in getting an opinion on the two 8-gallon crocks shown in the following posting. The posting describes the crocks as: #1 – Stands 15.5"h, 13"w, has a top down crack but still solid, also 1 chip on bottom Oval Red Wing Union Stoneware Co., Red Wing, Minn stamp (1 3/4"h x 2 7/8"w) #2 – Stands 16"h, 13.5"w, has smaller top down crack also solid. No chips Oval Red Wing Union Stoneware Co., Red Wing, Minn. stamp (1 1/4"h x 2 1/4"w) http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/clt/364374155.html Thanks for any info or advice you may be able to provide. Scott

Answer: Scott, I took a look a both of these crocks on craigslist. I cannot see the damage or how far the crack goes on either crock. The 1st crock with the 6 inch wing and ski oval is the nicest, but seems by the description to have the largest crack. I think that the asking price of $50 each or $100 for the pair is about as high as I would pay. If you purchase these two at this price and they clean up well, then I think the price is fair. If other damage is found under the dirt, then it may not be a good purchase. Also, if you have to include shipping on these two, I would then stay away from the deal. Al Kohlman
