Question:
Just wondering what the worth would be for a 20-gallon salt-glazed butterfly in 9/10 condition. Also, what would be the worth of the same crock that has a hairline going through the crock top to bottom?

Answer: Boy, this is a tough one. I would really need to see a photo of your butterfly. Price will vary if the piece is signed or unsigned, if signed, front stamped is worth more than back stamped, by the size of the butterfly, style of butterfly, how dark the butterfly, any staining on the crock and lastly, how well drawn and detailed the butterfly. I have seen prices range on butterflies in the 9 to 10 category from $1500 to as high as $3800. Now for the crack. If the crack is in the back (much better than the front) and a great looking butterfly, you could be looking at $500 t0 $600 range. If in the front, $100 to $150. Again, so much of this depends on what I have listed above to help determine a honest price range. Al Kohlman
