Hello I have come across some stoneware items in my grandmothers garden(past away) one of them was a ugly purple color and was going to throw out then I noticed under the paint was its orginal face, if you can help me to identify id be greatful. Here are photo’s i took of 2 stoneware pieces. One has oval stamp Red Wing Union Stoneware Co Red Wing Minn Thanks CJ

 

Answer: CJ, you have a Red Wing 5 gallon stoneware crock. Your crock was manufactured by the Red Wing Stoneware Company between 1895 and 1909. In 1909 the Red Wing Stoneware Company discontinued the use of birch leaves and began applying the well know red wing on there ware. In mint condition, you 5 gallon crock would have a value in the range of $75 to $125. Al Kohlman
