Question:
I am collecting Red Wing Crocks patented 1915 with a blue stamp and a large red wing, both with bail handles and with no handles. I was curious as to what all of the sizes are, so that I can complete my set. Did they make crocks of this type with bail handles under 4 gallons? Did they make a 7, 9, 11, 13, 14 gallon crocks? After 15 gallons does it only go up in 5 gallon increments? Also, the one gallon crock, was that made with a number one on it or only with the wing? I keep getting different answers from dealers, and so was curious what an actual expert had to say. Thank you for your time and consideration. Jaclyn

Answer; Jaclyn, I believe I have answered most of your questions in one of the previous questions. However, I will expand a little on this question. Red Wing did not manufacture crocks under 4 gallons with bail handles. They did not produce crocks in 7,9,11,13, or 14 gallons either. After the 15 gallon size, Red Wing went in 5 gallon increments to the 30 gallon size and then 10 gallon increments from 30 gallons to 60 gallons. One gallon Red Wing crocks have been found with a 4 1/2" red wing and a 2 7/8" wing on them, but never with a number 1 stenciled on them (watch one appear tomorrow). Hope this helps. Note: let me know when you have all the Wing crocks collected (with lids) and we will get you started on the birch leaf and elephant ear crocks. Al Kohlman
