hi in my large red wing concord magnolia dinnerware collection i have an oval egg platter with a lid that seems to be a wonky fit (perhaps it doesn’t go to it?) in the center bowl part and can not find anywhere a value. it is in very nice condition. thanks for any assistance you can provide. anxiously awaiting to hear back… dawn
Answer: Your egg plate and cover are both in the Concord shape and thus should physically fit together. Red Wing covers were notorious for fitting poorly, so it is not surprising that yours has that problem. However, your plate and cover are not a match because they came from two different Concord patterns. You have a chartreuse Quartette egg plate and a Magnolia egg plate cover. Quartette was the only Concord pattern made in solid colors (no handpainted pieces) and it as available in Chartreuse, Mulberry, Copper Glow and Ming Green. Your chartreuse egg plate should have a matching chartreuse cover, and your Magnolia cover should be matched with an egg plate with the same Magnolia artwork.
A properly matched Quartette or Magnolia egg plate and cover would be worth $75-125 if both parts are in excellent condition. It is difficult to assign a value to a mismatched plate and cover. But egg plates and egg plate covers are not easily found, so your set still has significant value. I’d guess the value to be in the $50-75 range.
