Question:
My mother has a set of Red Wing Merrileaf Hand painted China. There are 12 place settings along with every serving pice available (she thinks). She purchased it new back in the 60′s. Can you please give ma an approximate value of this set. As far as I can tell, there are no chips on any of the pices. She has the coffee pot, teapot, celery dish, serving bowls and platters. Salt and pepper shakers, creamer and sugar. Thank you. Janet

Answer: As with most Red Wing dinnerware patterns, much of the value of this Merrileaf collection lies with the accessory pieces. Fewer of them were made thus they are more difficult to find than basic plates and bowls. Your list of items includes the beverage server (coffee pot) and teapot, which are two of the more valuable pieces in this collection. But it does not include the six-piece relish dish, casserole, bread tray or any individual ashtrays. These pieces also have significant value. A six-piece relish alone is worth $100 to $200. I’d estimate the collection as you’ve described to be worth around $500 to $750 if all pieces are in excellent condition. The value could be higher if additional accessories are included.
