Question:
I’ve a partial set of Ebb Tide dinnerware–green with blue swirls: 10 plates (216), saucers (212), 8 cups (no # on bottom) , salad plates and small bread plates (216, 2 bowls, a 2 tiered dessert platter. I’ve quite a few of the latter, –more than 10. Any information on this set would be appreciated (time period/desirabiliity/possible value, etc.)I am also interested in selling these pieces, –especially to someone who might need to fill in an existing set of Ebb Tide. Thank you for your time with this. Margaret Francis
Answer: Ebb Tide is a rather unusual pattern. The number of available pieces was limited compared to most dinnerware patterns. No water pitcher, beverage server, teapot, salt & pepper, relish dish or bread tray was made for Ebb Tide. However coffee/tea cups were made in two styles; either with or without a handle. Ebb Tide was made for only a brief period. The pattern was introduced in mid 1965 and production ceased along with all other pottery production when the business closed in 1967. Ebb Tide can be difficult to find today, although interest in the pattern is fairly low. The three digit numbers on the bottom of your items do not identify the piece. They are merely batch or lot numbers used in the production process. Approximate values for Ebb Tide items in excellent condition: Dinner plate $12-15; salad plate or bread plate $7-10, handled cup & saucer $10-12; handless cup & saucer $15-25; cereal bowl $10-15; sauce/fruit bowl $7-10; two-tiered tidbit tray $10-25 (these were made in various configurations from stock on hand).
