Question:
Hello, I have a red wing pink spice soup tureen in mint condition (without the ladle). I have other pink spice pieces and noticed the base color is more lavendar than pink. I was wondering if this is a marriage with another pattern and also what it is worth. Cindy

Answer: Both the soup tureen and the sugar bowl are Pink Spice items. A Red Wing price list dated 1954 lists Pink Spice items available with Dawn Pink exteriors. Price lists from 1956 and 1957 include both Dawn Pink and Shell Pink as color options. By 1958 only Shell Pink remained. Dawn Pink is the darker lavender shade; Shell Pink is the brighter and lighter shade of pink.

The soup tureen is scarce and is a difficult piece to find. I’d estimate the value to be in the $100-150 range. The sugar bowl is rather common and is worth $10-15.

To my knowledge Red Wing did not provide a ladle with soup tureens in the Anniversary line, so I would not consider it to be "missing" from your Pink Spice tureen.
