Question:
Re: Red Wing Dinnerware — Zinnia Pattern
Dear Mr. Roschen, I have recently acquired two tea cups in the Red Wing Dinnerware pattern Zinnia (I confirmed the pattern via the Minnesota Historical Society). They have the copper glazing. They are in nearly mint condition, with only some very faint crazing in the copper glazing. There are no matching saucers; only the two tea cups. I am wondering what the value might be? Thanks, Martha
Answer: Zinnia is one of the many patterns in the Concord shape. The Quartette, Iris and Zinnia patterns were introduced in 1951 and they shared several new glaze colors. Quartette was the only Concord pattern to be made in solid colors with no hand painted pieces. The four available colors were Chartreuse, Mulberry, Ming Green and Copper Glow. Iris accessories were available with either Chartreuse or Mulberry exteriors; Zinnia exteriors were either Copper Glow or Ming Green. These four colors were also used for Informal Supper Service, which was also introduced in 1951 and uses shapes from the Town & Country pattern.
The Zinnia pattern is not readily found today but collector interest seems to be rather low. Cups alone without the matching saucers don’t have much value. Your Zinnia tea cups are worth around $5 each; maybe $10 to a collector who has extra saucers and needs the cups.
