Question:
I have three Red Wing pieces–all look like they are the "tan fleck" pattern. Two small bowls–the smallest is 4" x 7"; the other bowl is 4 6/8 x 7 7/8. The platter is 10 6/8 x 7. All are in perfect condition. The two largest pieces have the Red Wing imprint. All are high gloss glaze. Can you tell me more about these pieces and their value. Thanks, Diane

Answer:

The item shown in the photo is a baker (baking dish) from the Hotel & Restaurant line. The baker was made in two sizes and you have one of each. As the name implies Hotel & Restaurant dinnerware was made for the restaurant trade. It was made in the 1960s and was not marketed or available for sale to the public. Pieces are heavy in weight and sturdier than most dinnerware made for home use. It was designed to stand up to repeated use and rough handling. Hotel & Restaurant was available in either beige fleck or white. Colored trim around the rims could be added for an extra charge. Trim colors included green, blue, pink, yellow and possibly others. Except for a few specialty pieces such as the lobster dish and the individual teapot, Hotel & Restaurant doesn’t hold much interest for collectors because the pieces are plain and utilitarian. Values for your bakers and the platter are in the $10-15 range.
