Question:
We have a Red Wing Village Green 8 cup Beverage Server – brown body with green top. The cover is high profile consisting of a 1" lip that fits into the pitcher and prevents movement while pouring (3rd server from left in picture). Could you give an idea of its value? Thanks. Brenda

Answer: The Village Green pattern was introduced in 1952 and remained one of Red Wing’s more popular patterns until the business closed in 1967. Over the years the cover for the beverage server evolved. Presumably the original cover was flat-shaped with a single tab to hold it in place on the server. A later version has two tabs for improved holding power. And later still the style changed to the deep-sided cover with no tabs that fits down into the server. This style is found on Picardy and Two Step beverage servers, so most likely the deep-sided cover was introduced in 1960 along with those two patterns.

I don’t believe collectors pay much attention to the type of cover on Village Green beverage servers. A serious Village Green collectors would want one of each style, but it doesn’t seem to matter much to the casual collectors. In my opinion the value for any style Village Green beverage server in excellent condition would be $30-40.
