Question:
Can you help identify the pattern & any information you can give me about this oddly very very tall red wing Beverage server or teapot??

second posting on this piece:

I have a Red Wing beverage server on ebay & have not been able to identify it, one person thought it may be experiemental piece. can you help identify it?? item number on ebay 140361597189 thanks~!

Answer: This is not an authentic piece of Red Wing dinnerware. It is a "hobby shop" piece made from an old Red Wing mold. When Red Wing Potteries went out of business in 1967 the molds were sold to the public and many of them were obtained by art schools and amateur potters. Because the company was no longer in business there was no effort to obliterate the Red Wing name from these molds.

Your tall piece was formed in a mold used for the beverage server in the DuoTone line (also known as Cylinder). The photo of the bottom of this piece reveals letters that were scratched into the clay when it was wet. These letters represent the name or initials of the potter. Authentic Red Wing experimental and lunch hour dinnerware pieces were marked with ink or colored glaze, not marks made in the clay. Another clue to help identify hobby pieces is the weight. They are usually lighter in weight than an authentic Red Wing piece because of the differences in the clay used to make the piece.

Hobby shop pieces made from old Red Wing molds are quite common. Nice examples like yours do hold some interest for collectors but the value is not high, probably not over $25.
