Question:
Found this cookie Jar and I think it’s a Red Wing. It’s in excellent condition, looks new! Can I get the year this was made and a value, please. Thanks Sharon

Answer: This piece is known as the "Happy" cookie jar because of the verse on the side that begins "Happy are the children….". Cookie jars from the Bob White and Round Up dinnerware patterns have the same shape but without the verse. The Happy jar is not a part of any dinnerware pattern; it was sold as a novelty or gift item. I’ve heard this jar was originally available as a premium from the Pillsbury company but have not seen documentation for that claim. The cover on your jar is not original. The original cover has a pottery knob and is slightly raised, not indented. The Happy jar was introduced in 1959 and continued in production until the Potteries closed in 1967. The value for a Happy cookie jar in excellent condition and with the original cover is $50-75; without the original cover the value would be in the range of $20-30.
