Question:
My mother has just died and I have inherited her old set of Redwing china. It is a complete set for 12 of the Lotus pattern, including the serving pieces such as the creamer, serving dishes, bowls, gravy boat, etc. Do you have a rough idea of the value of the complete set? Thank you. Evann

Answer: Apparently this is a service for 12, which means the set includes 12 of each of the basic place setting pieces (cup, saucer, dinner plate, salad plate, sauce/fruit bowl, cereal/salad bowl and perhaps additional plates and bowls). It would help to know what accessory pieces are included besides the gravy boat as well as the color of them. Lotus hollow ware was available in metallic brown, chartreuse and gray. Condition is an all-important factor. Value could be less than $100 if condition is generally poor and few accessory pieces are included, or over $500 if condition is like new and the set includes harder to find pieces such as the spoon rest and egg plate. I’m guessing the value is somewhere around the middle of those two figures.
