Question:
I broke my wifes’ "fancy free, caprice" salt shaker. Where would be a good place to find a replacement? Larry

Answer: Sorry but I do not know of any Caprice salt & pepper shakers (or a lone shaker) for sale at this time. Caprice is not a common pattern and many of these shakers are already in the hands of collectors. But don’t give up; it may take some time and you will likely have to purchase a pair of shakers to replace the broken one, but eventually they will turn up.

I checked several online sites that feature Red Wing dinnerware and did not find them there. Likewise I checked eBay; nothing available now but I’ve seen a set there in the past. The hunt for a hard to find piece is part of the fun of collecting. You never know where that elusive piece will suddenly appear. Antique shops in the Red Wing area or shops in other areas that have a lot of Red Wing or dinnerware in general may have what you seek. Flea markets and antique shows offer the chance to scan the stock of many dealers at once. Sellers at the RWCS MidWinter or July convention could have them. You may want to place an ad in the RWCS newsletter where it will be read by many Red Wing collectors and sellers. Perhaps somebody with a Caprice shaker to spare will read this posting. You never know. Good luck!
