Question:
I have what I believe is a Village Green Mug but the handle instead of being a loop is more like a vertical rectangle Starting at the top of the mug then dropping down to about 3.5" from the top and then tapering back into the body of the mug. I have seen many pieces over the years and the glazes and colors are characterisrtic. It has a bit of a primitive feel to it but I always thought that was the idea. What have you to say? Jerry
Answer:
This is not a Village Green mug nor was it made by Red Wing. Several potteries made "rustic" dinnerware in shades of blue-green and dark brown. This mug was made by one of the competing potteries. These patterns can be difficult to tell apart until one learns the distinctive shapes and subtle color differences. It doesn’t help that many of these pieces are not marked.
