Question:
Hello you great experts! It is Sam, the young collector, yet again! This time, my question is about a set of Iris Pattern Concord Dinnerware I purchased at an auction. The pieces include: 1 Water Pitcher, BADLY cracked 1 Teapot, base is mint but lid handle has been broken and reglued 1 Sugar Bowl, the handle has been broken off 1 Divided Relish Dish, mint 3 Small Bowls (pic attatched- what are these?), each one has a small flaw 5 Small Bread And Butter? Plates, 3 have staining 2 Large Dinner Plates (each have VERY small ammounts of staining) 4 Cup And Saucer Sets, each of these are mint 3 Extra Saucers, all are mint Could you please give me a guestimate of the value? I love your site. Look forward to seeing you expert peoples at the Convention! Thanks Again, Sam
Answer:
Hello Sam, good to hear from you again. As you know, damaged dinnerware is worth considerably less than dinnerware in mint condition. It’s difficult to place a value on flawed goods. Value will depend on the extent of the damage and whether or not the same piece in excellent condition is readily available. Ultimately the eye of the beholder determines the value of a imperfect item.
