Question:
I have What I believe to be a Red Wing, Friar Tuck cookie jar. Measures 9-1/2" tall is 5 colors (white, brown, biege, yellow with gray eyebrows). Has the initials "JY" on the bottom of the jar and the lid both. Condition is fairly rough where the lid rubs against the jar. Four small rub areas on the bottom of the lid. Three small chips at non contact areas. Haven’t been able to find any info on this size or color, any information will be helpful and appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:
Hard to be sure without a hands-on inspection, but your cookie jar is almost certain to be a post-production piece made from an old Red Wing mold. When Red Wing retired a piece from production, the old molds were sometimes sold or given to art schools and hobby potters. The colors used on this jar are not Red Wing colors. Pottery students and amateur potters often scratch their initials into the bottom of their work, and the JY initials on the bottom of your jar fit that pattern. Values for hobby shop pieces are minimal.
