Question:
Hello, It is Sam, the 12 year old Red Wing Collector AGAIN. I found this Town And Country piece at a local thrift shop for two! dollars. I know it is a cruet and I think it is the color Sand, but I am curious about its value. Can you tell me? There is a VERY LITTLE chip of the spout of the cruet. It has the lid. Sam
Answer: For $2 you’ve made a very nice find! You do indeed have a Town & Country cruet in the Sand color. Town and Country was made from 1947 to 1956. As you probably know the cruet’s stopper should have a cork stem, not just the flat pottery button as seen in the photo. The cork is either missing or is stuck inside the cruet. Some collectors would prefer a matched pair of cruets rather than a single cruet. Vintage Town & Country price lists show them singly as "Oil with Stopper" and "Vinegar with Stopper", although to my knowledge there is no difference between them. The value for a single Sand cruet in excellent condition would be around $75; the value of yours would be a bit less due to the chip and the missing cork.
