Question:
Are there redwing pieces that are un-marked? I came across this piece while cleaning out a barn that was built in 1770.Apears to be red wing. Can you give me some info? Thanks

Answer: There are MANY pieces made by Red Wing that are not marked with the company name. Your item appears to be a Provincial Cooking Ware casserole (without its cover), made by Red Wing in the 1940s. But there should be a mark pressed into the clay on the side of the piece. It should read "Red Wing Provincial Ware" along with a two digit number. The mark may be very light, and it’s possible some pieces were not marked at all. Provincial Cooking Ware was a line of cookware – casseroles, pans and pots – not a dinnerware pattern. It doesn’t seem to hold much interest for today’s collectors. The value for your coverless casserole would be no more than $10.
