Question:
Hi, I am trying to ID a white, textured serving platter. 15-5/16" long X 11-3/4" tall. No number on back, just REDWING USA WITH THE WINGS – all in red. It is oval, or comma shaped to me. I found several of these on the site but they were decorated. This one is not. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mercy

Answer: You have a Tweed Tex platter. Tweed Tex is one of six patterns in the Anniversary shape, so called because the line was introduced in 1953 – the 75th anniversary of the Red Wing Stoneware Company. While the other five patterns in this shape were decorated by hand, Tweed Tex pieces are all white. And because Tweed Tex has no hand painting, it has a unique ink stamp mark on the back of many pieces. It is the standard 1950s pinkish-red wing shaped ink stamp but without the word "Handpainted".

Value for this platter would be $20 to $30.
