Question:
I have a yellow pineapple covered dish, about 3/5" long. The top cover has a single "leaf" extension; the bottom has a double-groved extension. The colors are slightly different. Is this an individual casserole? Do you know approximate year and current value? Thank you!

Answer: Yes, your yellow pineapple dish is an individual casserole, also known as a marmite. It is among a large group of fruit-shaped dishes introduced under the Gypsy Trail Hostess Ware name in 1940. By 1942 the fruit-shaped casseroles and marmites had been replaced by fish and rooster shapes, although fruit-shaped cookie jars and marmalades continued to be made. Color variation is common with Gypsy Trail. Slight differences in the glaze from batch to batch as well as how heavily the glaze was applied are factors in the appearance. Current value for your yellow pineapple covered marmite would be $20-25 in excellent condition.
