Question:
Can you tell me anything about this soup tureen Measures 5 " H and 13.5 " L Pinkish bottom I think it is county garden is it ? Who designed it What is the value or rarity of this piece Thank you
Answer: You have a soup tureen in the Anniversary shape. But you have mismatched pieces. The cover is from a Country Garden tureen while the pink base is from a Pink Spice tureen. There are six patterns in the Anniversary shape and each has a "standard" exterior color along with one or two suggested alternate colors. The standard color for Country Garden was gray; a 1954 price list suggests sage green or white as alternatives. The same price list includes dawn pink or shell pink as the color choices for Pink Spice. The design of both the Country Garden and Pink Spice patterns is attributed to Charles Murphy.
Soup tureens are quite rare and are probably the most difficult piece to find in the Anniversary shape. A properly matched soup tureen and cover in excellent condition would be worth at least $100 and probably closer to $200. It’s tough to place a value on a mismatched set like this one. A collector with a gray base missing its Country Garden cover may be willing to pay close to full price for a good cover. The same might also be true for your pink base, although it’s considerably easier to find a base without a cover than a cover without a base.
