Question:
I HAVE WHAT I BELIEVE IS A GREEN GLAZED MAPLE SYRUP PITCHER 2QUART SIZE .10 3/4 HIGH TO TOP OF HANDLE BY 8 3/4 ACROSS. THE SIDESHAVE A HORSEHOE DESIGN AROUND THE OUTSIDE AND VERY NICELY FLOWING SHAPE . HANDLE ON TOP GOES ACROSS TOP. AND A PORING SPOUT WITH A CORK IS IN FRONT OF THE HANDLE. ON THE LOWER EDGE IS STAMPED IN BLACK SOMETHING ? PATENT THEN REDWING AND THE ADDRESS BELOW THAT. THE SPOUT HAS A COUPLE OF CHIPS AND A MINOR ONE ON THE LOWER SIDE BELOW ONE OF THE HORESHOES. IS THIS A MAPLE SYRUP CONTAINER ? IS THIS AN UNCOMMON PIECE ? WHAT MIGHT ITS VALUE BE ? IT HAS A VERY BEAUTIFUL GREENISH HUE GLAZE THAT IS WONDERFUL. THANK YOU.

Answer: I’m not aware of any Red Wing pitcher that comes close to fitting this description. Only a few Red Wing pieces are marked with a patent date — a handful of stoneware items, some Fondoso dinnerware pieces and early Chef, Friar and Katrina cookie jars come to mind. Without photos of the item and the markings to prove otherwise I’d say this pitcher was not made by Red Wing Potteries.
