Question:
Just came across your site and I really like it. I have a piece of pottery, an orange pitcher/server with a wood handle that I was told it was gypsy trail. I have found this may be part of red wing pottery. The pitcher has a shiny glaze over the entire piece. There are a few scuff marks but overall condition is very good with no chips or cracks (noticable). I would like to know is this indeed a red wing piece, from what era and if it is red wing, why there is no marking. Also, I would like to know estimated worth. Thanks for your time Jarid S

Answer: Red Wing’s Gypsy Trail line is frequently confused with the wares of California potteries such as Bauer. If the bottom of your coffee server is marked 565 (the mold number), it was made by Red Wing. The lack of a company name marking is not at all unusual; many Red Wing dinnerware pieces were not marked. This is particularly common with the Gypsy Trail line.

This coffee server was included in the initial introduction of Gypsy Trail in 1935 and continued to be produced into the mid-1940s. It was made in a wide range of colors, although orange seems to be the most common. Value in excellent condition is $25-$35.
