Question:
Hi I just purchased this pitcher at a auction it has some issues 2 hairlines and some staining on the inside. The pitcher is marked redwing on the bottom. I am wondering if it part of a set or a pattern and a value of a mint one and of one in this condition? thank you paul

Answer: Paul, the catalogs called this a French Design Pitcher, and it is listed as a piece in the Plain pattern, one of the patterns in the colorful Gypsy Trail line. The French Design Pitcher was made in three sizes (8oz, 12oz and 16 oz ) and was available in the standard Gypsy Trail colors (orange, blue, yellow, turquoise and ivory). This pitcher was introduced in the late 1930s and was discontinued by mid-1942.

French Design Pitchers can be fairly difficult to find, but they are not rare. The 12oz pitcher seems to be the most common size while 16oz is the least common. Most of the pitchers I’ve seen have been orange in color. Values for pieces in excellent condition range from $25 to $50, depending on the color and the size. Damage reduces the value significantly. Two average hairlines would likely reduce the value by half, two tiny hairlines by perhaps one-quarter.
