Question:
Hi It is Sam the NOW 11 year old Red Wing collector! I purchased a Nassau Celery Dish with the red wing mark at a garage sale for $5. It has 2 small chips though. I know it is a rare line, but does it have anymore value than the $5 I paid with the chips? Sam

Answer: Sam, I would say you made a good buy for $5. Nassau is one of the many patterns in the Concord shape and it is indeed rare. It was introduced late 1952 or early 1953; I’ve seen a Nassau brochure dated January 1953. Not sure how long it was made but most likely only a few months at most.

It’s difficult to provide a value for your piece because I’ve never seen one sold. My educated guess would be around $50 for a Nassau celery dish in excellent condition. The value of your chipped dish will depend on the location and size of the chips. Chips visible when the dish is used will devalue the piece more than chips underneath the piece, and of course the larger the chip the greater the devaluation. If the chips are tiny and on the bottom of, they probably won’t have much affect on a rare piece like this. If the chips are a bit larger and on the top rim, I’d still think your dish is worth $25 to $30.
