Question:
I found this teapot on ebay and I have a companion piece–a covered bowl with a handle. I am interesting in knowing what the pattern is called and if there is dinnerware with that pattern. Renee

Answer:
Renee, your teapot is from the Orleans dinnerware pattern, one of four patterns in the Provincial shape. The Provincial line was the first hand painted dinnerware made by Red Wing and was introduced in 1941. The Orleans pattern was very popular and continued in production until about 1950.

There is indeed a full spectrum of dinnerware items made in the Orleans pattern. Orleans is a pattern than should maintain collector interest for some time. Many pieces are fairly easy-to-find while others are more challenging. And values seem to hold up well.

A good place to view other Orleans items is the Red Wing Dinnerware website at http://www.redwingdinnerware.com. Click "Master Index", then scroll down to the Orleans plate and click it. The four patterns in the Provincial shape will appear on the left side. Click on "Dinnerware" below the four photos to see items in the Provincial shape. You’ll see Orleans items as well as pieces decorated in the three sister patterns. (Note: the covered beverage server was not made in the Orleans pattern.) Good luck and have fun collecting Orleans!
