Question:
I am resending my question. I just realized that I sent too many pictures on my previous message and that the maximum size is 2MB. So I am resubmitting my question and only ONE picture. Thanks. China (Merrileaf pattern) is in very good condition and I would appreciate an approximate value. It was purchased in early 60′s. Set includes the following: 8 dinner plates 6 salad plates 7 fruit bowls 6 cereal bowls 7 coffee cups 4 saucers sugar/creamer set 1 meat platter 2 serving bowls 1 large salad bowl 1 divided vegetable bowl butter dish cover (plate is missing) 2 ashtrays Thanks.
Answer: You have a very nice starter set for a collector interested in building a complete set of Merrileaf. Most of your pieces are common (plates, bowls, cups, saucers), and some value will be lost due to missing pieces. But it would be relatively easy to find replacements to build this back up to a service for eight. The large salad bowl and the small ashtrays are more difficult to find and thus more valuable. But your set does not include many of the harder to find pieces such as the teapot, beverage server, 6-piece relish or bread tray.
The value for this set as presented would be around $200 to $300 if all pieces are in excellent condition. Any chips, flakes, cracks, hairlines and other damage will reduce the value significantly.
