Question:
I have a complete (service for 8) set of Lotus pattern dinnerware. Has plates, saucers, cup saucers, coffee cups, gravy boat, sugar dish, serving platter and bowl. 2 or 3 pieces are slightly chipped. Could you give me a rough estimate of it’s value? Thank you DeYon

Answer:
I’ll have to make a few assumptions to provide an estimate for this lot of Lotus items. The "coffee cups" are most likely standard shallow tea cups rather than the scarce taller coffee cups. Not sure if "plates" means just dinner plates or if it includes the three sizes of plates commonly found in a place setting. The list also includes a "bowl", and there were four different sizes of bowls available. Answers to these concerns would influence the value of this set.

The retail price one could expect to see for this group of Lotus pieces would be in the range of $300 to $350, assuming all pieces are in excellent condition and all three plate sizes x8 are included. But the supply of Lotus is large and all of your pieces are common (not hard to find). A more realistic value of what you could expect in a sale might be in the range of $150 to $200. The chips on several pieces and any other damage would reduce the value.
