Question:
I found this piece while shopping at Goodwill today. I picked it up thinking it was a pretty piece and nearly dropped it when I saw the Red Wing emblem on the bottom. This piece has lovely blue and pink flowers. The plate itself is textured, appearing to have a weave pattern. I checked the web site and think it is a Country Garden Celery Plate. It has what appears to be a small nick on one end and two to three chips on the end. Other than my intrinsic excitely at finding this piece, does it have any value to a collector?

Answer: You do indeed have a Country Garden celery dish. Country Garden is a pattern in the Anniversary shape and was produced in the mid-1950s. It is one of Red Wing’s prettier patterns and is popular with collectors today. In excellent condition it would be worth $20 to $30. The nicks and chips on your piece will reduce the value significantly, by at least half or more depending on the size of the chips. A serious Country Garden collector most likely would not be interested in a damaged celery dish and would wait for one in excellent condition.
