Question:
Hi, a mother of a friend of mine has this pattern. (Orleans?) She has the complete place setting for 12. Also gravy boat, pitcher, bowls, etc. I know it is difficult to answer without all the details of the pieces,(There are more pieces)but it is up in thier attic where it has been since the 60′s. She remembers using them for special occasions in the 50′s. A friend gave her mother the COMPLETE set. As far as she knows, none are broken. there was no crazing on the piece she gave me to photograph. If the set is complete, what is it’s approx value? Thank you!

ANSWER: The pattern shown in the photo is indeed Orleans. In my opinion, a "complete place setting" in Orleans would include a dinner plate, salad plate, bread plate and cup & saucer. The value for one such place setting would be around $50. Sorry, but the term "complete set" is not a useful description. I can only speculate what pieces might be included. You’ve mentioned the set includes a gravy boat ($75 to $100) , pitcher ($50 to $75), bowls, etc. There are four types of Orleans bowls ranging in value from around $10 to over $100. Most likely this set includes a sugar and creamer, salt & pepper shakers, a casserole and probably a platter or two. But does it include a teapot, a pair of candleholders and a buffet bowl? Is there a covered cream soup bowl for each of the 12 place settings? These are among the more valuable pieces in the Orleans pattern and without knowing which items are included I cannot provide a viable estimate for the set.
