Question:
Red wing stamp below is number 977. Size: 4.5inches high x 10"wide at the top. When was this manufactured? What is its correct name, besides bowl? The finish is a satin and not high gloss. Inside at the bottom of the bowl are 2 tiny pinpoint factory flaws. There is another pinpoint flaw on the outside. On one side there are a few golden brown speckle-spatters under the glaze. Underneath, the bottom rim that the piece sits on: in the middle of that rim is a 1 inch crack. You can tell it came out of the kiln like that. The crack appears to be about 1/32 inch deep. Do these flaws make it worthless or worth very little? Marti

Answer: Hi Marti

your bowl is from around 1947, it came in 3 sizes, this being the largest. It’s a console bowl of sorts. Your flaws sound like something that would come out of the factory. I haven’t seen too many with the crack, but it could be. Value is around 35.00. thanks, steve n rose
