Question:
I have an old crock which has been indicated to me might be an early Red Wing although I am very doubtful. Anyway, it is a salt glaze 3 gallon, with side 8 bullseye and beesting. It does have 2 handles, it appears to have been at least partially thrown and partially manufactured. The front is flat the back has a bump or ridge that is sometimes common in thrown items, also the top dimensions are 10" diam x 9 1/2" diam and bottom is stirctly 10" diam. Any information you could provide would be most appreciated. I found your site doing research on a 20 gal. Red Wing Cooler/Crock I have and so here I am to find out about this little treasure. It’s been in our family for over 30 years. Thank you. Connie Zeller

Answer: Connie, your 3 gallon lazy 8 crock is not Red Wing. I could be an early Monmouth piece or Ohio. Just not sure. Sorry, but that is about all I can tell you on it. It is a nice looking piece though. Al Kohlman
