Question:
Looks to be a crock with the number 4 with two leaves and the Red Wing Union Stoneware stamp below, see attached picture. There are no cracks. It is my grandfather’s, we discovered it while cleaning up. Philip

 

Answer: Philip, you have an early Red Wing 4 gallon birch-leaf crock with the first Red Wing oval (called the ski oval). Red Wing used birch leaves to decorate their ware before the Red Wing was produced. Your grandfather’s crock was manufactured between 1895 & 1909. Value in perfect condition is around $75. Al Kohlman
