Question:
Hello, In my grandparents canning cellar in Minnesota 30 years ago, I came across a ball locking jar which I believe is Red Wing Saffron stoneware as its the creamy yellow color glaze with the banded 2 brown stripes with a white stripe inside. It has the Red Wing ball lock lid and bail, and may be 1 or 2 gallons. It also has the wire bail handle with black wood turned holder. Can you tell me anything about it like when it was made or produced and its rareness or not? What sizes they came in? JohnPatrick
Answer: John, I have never seen or even heard of a Red Wing Saffron-ware ball locking jar. The only thing in Saffron-ware that resembles a ball locking jar is their cookie jar. Send me a photo and I will be able to better identify what you have. thanks Al Kohlman
