Question:
We found this under a chair and half full of marbles as you can see, in my significant other’s parents home. What can you tell us about it? Anything would be appreciated. Mary Lou
Answer: Mary Lou, you have the earliest zinc glazed Red Wing crock with a ski oval. The ski oval (that little mark just under the words RED WING that resembles a ski) was the first oval produced (between 1909 & 1912. These 2 gallon ski oval crocks are very collectible. However, yours would need to be cleaned (you can scrub it with any household detergent or degreeser with no problems). It looks from your photo that this crock may have a hairline crack in the front. If this is so, it would cut the value in half of what it would be worth in perfect condition. In perfect condition, your 2 gallon Red Wing crock with ski oval would have a value around $150.
