Question:
I found this ceramic jug in the back yard of a house I recently moved into. It’s about 18-20 inches from the floor to the spout and about 10 inches in diameter (I didn’t take exact measurements). It has a dark ceramic glaze on the top. There are no visible chips or cracks. It is stamped with a number "5" on it and another oval stamp that says "Red Wine, Oiterie Inc, Red Wing, Minn" It’s hard to read the company name on the stamp so I could be wrong on the spelling. Attached are pictures. I’d appreciate any input you have. Thank You! Marian

Answer: Marian, what you have is a Red Wing 5 gallon brown top shoulder jug. The oval really reads: " Red Wing Potteries Inc. Red Wing, Minn". This is a later jug produced between 1936 & 1947. I see it has a lot of crazing and really needs a good bath. All cleaned up it would have a value around $100 if there are no chips, cracks or hairlines. Al Kohlman
