Question:
I just purchased this red wing cooler at a estate sale this morning can you give me any information on it’s markings, year and value? It is missing the lid but there are no cracks or hair lines, it has a few chips but overall condition is very good it is marked red wing stoneware company over the hole I did not see any markings on the bottom. Thanks for any information, Jerry

Answer: Jerry, you have a very early (1867 to 1894) Red Wing 4 gallon lazy 8 with quotations salt glaze water cooler that is front stamped. These early salt glaze cooler are very desirable among us stoneware collectors. One sold a the convention for $2500 this July (believe it was a 5 gallon).. I would think in today’s markets, yours would be in the same boat. Nice cooler!!!!!!!!! Love it. Al Kohlman
