Question:
have a 20 gallon Union Stoneware crock that has a hairline crack running from top to almost the bottom. Can you tell me the value with the damage, it is part of my grandma’s estate and I believe it is priced too high (they had it at $250, I have not paid that yet; I will wait for your reply). Except for the crack, there is no other damage. There is another crock that is also a 20 gallon, but has no other identification other than the ’20′ on it. It is taller than my Union crock, and the inside glaze is a dark brown. Any ideas? I have this 20 gal Union Stoneware double birch leaves crock. It has a hairline crack on the side going from top to about 2/3 down. I would like to know estimate of value. Thank you very much. Roberta

Answer: Roberta, if the 20 gallon union birch leaf crock were mint, then the $250 would be the top value. With a crack running from top to bottom the value will drop to around $75. Anything with that kind of damage is hard to sell. The 20 gallon crock with just the 20 is most likely not Red Wing. Value on these pieces are very low ($50 to $75 in perfect condition). The last 20 gal union birch with the crack on the side 2/3 of the way down would have a value the same as the first birch leaf crock $75. Hope this helps. Al Kohlman
