Question:
I would like to know if there is any value to the crock I have. What was this crock used for? It has a floating mechanism inside and a spout outside that look original to its age. Pictures show a small chip in the glaze. This is the only flaw aside from rust marks. How can I clean the rust marks away without damaging it? Your help is appreciated. Thanks Jackie
Answer: Jackie, your 15 gallon Red Wing crock was used in chemical plants, large dairies and hardware stores. It was used to mix chemical and then dispense them. Rust can be kind of tough to remove, but go ahead and try using Lime-A-Way gel toilet bowl cleaner and a scratch pad. Make sure to wear vinyl gloves and then have at it. Don’t know of any chemical that can hurt your crock. Value all cleaned up would be in the area of $250. Al Kohlman
