Question:
Hello! This is a 2gal. crock with blue sponging that continues around the crock. The sponging is not uner the glaze. However it does not come off. Is this common? What would this crock be worth? Thanks! Ray

Answer: Ray, I have problem with what you are telling me in regards to the sponging not being under the glaze. Here is what you need to do. Take some paint stripper and apply it to the sponging. Give it plenty of time to work and see if the sponging comes off. Make sure you put on some vinyl gloves and get a green or tan scratch pad and scrub the crock while the paint stripper is still on it and had some time to work. The paint stripper will not hurt your crock. However, if that sponging was applied after the crock was manufacturer, the paint stripper will remove it. We will then know that it was applied by someone trying to increase the value by fabricating a fake piece. You can also take a knife and see if you can scratch off any of the sponging. The sponging should not be able to be removed. Please email me results to our busness office at director@redwingcollectors.org after you have completed the stripping or scrapping with a knife and let me know what happen. We will go from there. thanks Al Kohlman
